No Bluelines will be allowed to ply in South Delhi from 10-Feb this year. About 32 routes are being removed and replaced by new Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.
As per the plan, about 210 buses plying on the south Delhi routes will only have DTC buses running on them. These are the operational routes which form part of the first cluster created for the Blueline corporatization scheme, which operate in south Delhi including the pilot Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor on which Bluelines were barred last year.
The routes where blueline buses will stop operating include 411, 416, 417, 419, 423A, 427, 440, 446, 462, 463, 469, 521, 522A, 534, 526, 450, 56, 66, 602, 604, 605, 606, 610, 616, 620, 615, 641, 632, 666, 430, 581 and 571.
The transport department has already issued notices to owners of Bluelines which will be more than 10 years old as on June 30 this year. About 264 buses which fall under this category will be removed from Delhi roads in the next month. "The notices to vacate routes have already been issued to the operators. All these buses will be phased out now," said a senior official.
When the phase-out from south Delhi happens, operators running buses which are less than 10 years old will be given some of the routes on which the older, phased-out buses were operating. The allocation will reportedly happen on a first come first serve basis. The shortfall, if any, will be met with the new low floor DTC buses which are being delivered every month now.
The department had initiated a similar phase-out of Bluelines from Noida in December last year and about 251 buses plying in the sub-city were put off the roads. To meet the commuting needs of people, DTC deployed about 200 additional buses on the 32 routes to Noida.
