CM invites tribal children to CWG 2010

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has invited and promised to provide accommodation to over 10,000 tribal children at the national capital during the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010.

Dikshit, who visited the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on Thursday, Apr 29, met a student who has been selected for the CWG, which is scheduled to kick start in Oct 2010. Inspired by this, she extended her invitation to all the children of the school to come and be part of the international sporting event.

The Chief Minister was also moved by the dedication of KISS in providing educational foundation for the tribal community of the country.

KISS, which is a sister concern of KIIT university, takes pride in being the tribal institute in Asia.

It provides education starting right from kindergarten right up to post-graduation along with vocational training, residence, food, health care and all other basic necessities of life to 10,000 tribal children - all free of cost.

Dikshit congratulated the founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achutananda Samanta for establishing an unique institute for deprived tribal children, which she said symbolised progressive India.

The Chief Minister took a complete tour of the campus and interacted with the students as the founder explained how the institute was not only providing educational support to the children but also vocational training and employment opportunities.

Dikshit has not only promised to give the children the opportunity to be a part of the Commonwealth Games but has also promised KISS that she will be visiting again soon with her grandchildren.
