As the city of Delhi readies itself for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in October, tourist destinations in and around Delhi are preparing themselves to welcome tourist with all possible facilities.
Agra close to Delhi is one of most popular tourist destinations in the world. The city will receive high number of tourist during Commonwealth Games to be held in October. The month also marks beginning of tourist season in India. The district authorities of Agra have therefore planned to start special sightseeing tour buses to take tourist around the famous tourist spots in the city. The bus will pick up tourist from their hotels in the city.
One tour includes visit to the local spots such as Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Mehtab Bagh or Moonlight Garden, Ram Bagh which is the oldest Mughal Graden in India, Itimad-ud Daulah’s Tomb and many others places. The other tour includes a visit to Fatehpur Sikri, which is about 35 kms from Agra
Apart from the world famous monument of Taj Mahal, the administrative authorities wish to promote tourism in Agra to all other tourist spots as well. Taj Mahal one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a World Heritage Site was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan who built the white marble monuments in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Agra Fort, another important historical monument is also a World Heritage Site built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. The fort has a number of palaces and mosques inside its walls.
Fatehpur Sikri built by Mughal Emperor Akbar who had shifted his capital here from Agra, but later again shifted his capital to Agra Fort. This town is a World Heritage Site and has many buildings of tombs, mosques which are of great historical significance.
Traffic management is the biggest challenge that city of Agra will be facing due to increased influx of tourists. The plan is to arrange group and guided tours so as to ensure movement of tourists around the city and ensuring no overcrowding takes place at any of the sites.
