India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia and West Bengal Sports Minister Kanti Ganguly among others will welcome the Queen's Baton for the upcoming Commonwealth Games when it arrives in the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport in Kolkata on August 1. Ganguly will receive the Baton in
presence of Bhutia, Olympian Soma Biswas, Asian Games double gold medalist Jyotirmoyee Sikdar and former football star Tulasi Balaram, Bengal Olympic Association (BOA) secretary, Kamalesh Chatterjee said announcing the QBR schedule in the city.
The Baton will set its journey from the North Gate of the Victoria Memorial at 3 pm, he said.
"About 10,000 school children are being invited to be part of the programme in the 8 km long route. There will also leading personalities from the sports fraternity," he said.
The QBR will then head to neighbouring districts covering about 300kms traversing through Bardwan, Panagarh, Durgapur and Asansol before reaching Dhanbad in Jharkhand on August 4.
The Commonwealth Games will be held in Delhi from October 3-14.
