BCCI rejects CWG OC's suggestion to re-schedule Aus tour

In an apparent snub to the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, BCCI has refused to change the dates of India-Australia cricket series which co-insides with Delhi Games.

BCCI, reportedly turned down the request citing scheduling problems.

With the India-Australia cricket series clashing with the Commonwealth Games in October, CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi had earlier sought sports minister MS Gill's help to convince the BCCI to reschedule the two-Test rubber.

In a letter to the sports minister on July 1, Kalmadi requested Gill to talk to the BCCI officials and convince them to re-adjust the dates of the Test matches, which coincide with the October 3-14 Games.

As per the itinerary released by the BCCI last month, Ricky Ponting's men will play two Tests and three one-day internationals in India between October 2 and 24, which clashes with the Commonwealth Games.

"I seek to write to your good offices to try and convince BCCI to reschedule the two Test matches between India and Australia, now slated to start on October 2 in Mohali and October 10 in Bangalore so that cricket matches do not clash with the Commonwealth Games," Kalmadi wrote in his letter to Gill.

Earlier, the cricket board's asked the working committee to take a decision on whether to accede to the request of the Delhi Commonwealth Games organisers for financial help to the tune of Rs 100 crore.

"A letter has been received for financial help in holding the Commonwealth Games. Its up to the working committee which meets here on July 31 to take a decision," BCCI sources said on Thursday.

The letter to the Board for financial assistance has come from Indian Olympic Association chief Suresh Kalmadi who is also the chairman of the CWG Organising Committee, the sources said.
