The forthcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 continue to face turbulence as the CWG Organizing Committee treasurer Anil Khanna resigned in the wake of allegations of financial misconduct against his family.
It was alleged that his son's firm secured a contract for laying synthetic courts at the Tennis Stadium using his clout. Khanna's son Aditya owns stakes in Rebound Ace, an Australian Firm. The firm reportedly got the contract for laying 14 synthetic courts at the RK Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi. Khanna took moral grounds and resigned stating that all contracts were awarded much before he took on his position in Organizing Committee.
Anil Khanna also holds the post of All India Tennis Association Secretary.
A top source in the OC said that some members will press for the immediate ouster of Deputy Director General T S Darbari, whose name has figured in the investigations into alleged irregularities into services provided during the Queen's Baton Relay in London.
A week after TV reports of a murky deal with London-based AM firm, IOA probe panel sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee joint director T S Darbari, a close aide of OC chief Suresh Kalmadi.
With the credibility of the OC taking a severe beating with more and more scandals coming out in the past few days, there is intense pressure on Kalmadi to start the cleansing operation.
